We found ways to cure her itch using traditional Chinese medicine, and then left it be."nnTwo years ago however the mole gave way to a small horn-like mass the size of a little finger.nnXiuzhen accidentally "broke" the small horn this February, and in its place her current horn began growing rapidly over the past six months.nnChaojun said: "Now the horn hurts my mother and prevents her from sleeping. It also bleeds from time to time."nnDoctors in Sichuan diagnosed the so-called unicorn horn as "cornu cutaneum", a keratinous skin tumour that has the appearance of a horn.nnOften small and benign, the growth can in some cases be much larger and malignant.nnChaojun said doctors believe they can remove the growth through surgery, but the family has its reservations due to Xiuzhen¿s old age and considering other options.nnChaojun said: "My mother is old, and the horn is on her head which is a very sensitive area. I¿m not confident of surgery. If something goes wrong [during surgery], it would be terrible."nnOnly last month another pensioner made headlines after it was revealed she had three bizarre toenail like growths sprouting from her foot and had appealed for doctors to operate.nnThe unnamed elderly woman from the town of Wadi Al Dawasir in central Saudi Arabia¿s Riyadh Province has reportedly been to several hospitals and clinics, with none of them able to explain what she is suffering from.nn

Μια ηλικιωμένη γυναίκα άφησε άφωνους τους γιατρούς σε νοσοκομείο της Κίνας, όταν αντίκρισαν αυτό που είχε στο κεφάλι της. Η ηλικιωμένη είναι γνωστή στους συγχωριανούς της στο Guiyan της επαρχίας Sichuan, ως η «γυναίκα μονόκερος», εξαιτίας μιας κρεατοελιάς που έχει εξελιχθεί μέσα σε οχτώ χρόνια σε μια απίστευτη μάζα μήκους 13 εκατοστών.

Σύμφωνα με τον Wang Chaojun, γιο της 87χρονης Liang Xiuzhen, η μητέρα του έβγαλε κάτι που «έμοιαζε με κρεατοελιά» πριν από επτά ή οχτώ χρόνια: «Η μητέρα μου παραπονιόταν για αυτή την ελιά που μεγάλωνε στο κεφάλι της και είχε συνεχώς φαγούρα. Βρήκαμε τρόπους να καταπολεμήσουμε τη φαγούρα με παραδοσιακούς τρόπους από την κινέζικη ιατρική», είπε ο Wang συμπληρώνοντας: «Πριν από δύο χρόνια ωστόσο, φύτρωσε στο σημείο ένα μικρό κέρατο, το οποίο αναπτύχθηκε ταχύτατα τους τελευταίους έξι μήνες. Πλέον η μητέρα μου υποφέρει από φρικτούς πόνους, αιμορραγεί συχνά, ενώ δεν μπορεί καν να κοιμηθεί».

Η ηλικιωμένη γυναίκα, μεταφέρθηκε σε νοσοκομείο της Sichuan, όπου οι γιατροί την ενημέρωσαν ότι στο κεφάλι της αναπτύχθηκε ένα σπάνιο δερματικό κέρας (κερατινώδης όγκος του δέρματος), το οποίο είναι συνήθως καλοήθες και μικρό. Πάντως, αν και της πρότειναν τη λύση της εγχείρησης, εντούτοις οι συγγενείς της ανησυχούν λόγω της προχωρημένης ηλικίας της.
